The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious football tournament in the world. The tournament, which takes place every four years, brings together the best national teams from around the globe to compete for the title of world champion. The first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930, and it was won by a country that remains a great footballing nation to this day - Uruguay.

 

Uruguay's journey to the first ever World Cup began in the early 20th century, when the country's football association, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), was founded in 1900. Football quickly became a national obsession in Uruguay, and the country soon began producing some of the finest players in the world.
