·      Lionel Messi's early career began in his hometown of Rosario, Argentina, where he played for local club Grandoli and later for Newell's Old Boys. It was at Newell's where Messi's talent was first identified, and he quickly rose through the ranks of the club's youth system.  

 

·      At the age of 11, Messi was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency, which threatened to derail his footballing career. However, his family was able to secure funding from FC Barcelona, and Messi moved to Spain at the age of 13 to join the club's famed youth academy, La Masia.
